ESSENTIAL MATH SELF-ASSESSMENT

Introduction

Time spent mastering any unfamiliar material in this basic review will be time very well spent. To increase your speed, this material is organized in a specific sequence, building on prior questions.

The basic mathematics in this review chapter is critical to subsequent medication calculations. Chapter 1 provides an essential math review for further study. Be able to define all the terms and do all of the operations in Chapter 1 with ease before proceeding to Chapter 2 or other chapters.

A calculator is not necessary for most medicine calculations. However, mental calculations and occasional quick use of pencil and paper are necessary for most medicine calculations. A calculator will be helpful later with more complex medication problems.

Directions: Answer all of the questions. Circle the problems that may need review. After you are finished, check your answers on p. 481. Review Chapter 1 for the areas needing further study.
