The Department of Health’s ‘You’re Welcome: Quality criteria for young people friendly health services’ was first published in 2005 with the objective of helping commissioners and providers of health services to improve NHS and non-NHS health services. A new and enhanced version of this was published on 15 April 2011. ‘You’re Welcome’ encompasses all contemporary health policy for young people (http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20130107105354/http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Publicationsandstatistics/Publications/PublicationsPolicyAndGuidance/DH_073586).

The quality criteria provided in this good practice guidance should facilitate enhancements in local practice and help provide the evidence of what will improve the health care journeys and health outcomes for young people. To support the implementation of ‘You’re Welcome’, the Department of Health has developed an easy to use self-review online tool (www.dh.gov.uk).
