Therapeutic Actions
Inhibits the virus-specific enzyme integrase, an encoded enzyme needed for viral replication. Blocking this enzyme prevents formation of HIV-1 provirus and leads to decreased viral load and increased active CD4 cells.
Indications
In combination with other antiretrovirals for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and children 4 wk and older weighing at least 3 kg
Contraindications and Cautions

Tablets—400 mg; chewable tablets—25, 100 mg; suspension—100 mg packets
Dosages
Adults
400 mg PO bid taken with other antivirals and without regard to food. If given with rifampin, 800 mg PO bid without regard to food.
Pediatric patients
12 yr and older: 400 mg PO bid.
6 to younger than 12 yr: 25 kg or more, 400 mg PO bid or up to 300 mg PO bid chewable tablets; less than 25 kg, chewable tablets weight-based to maximum 300 mg bid.
2 to younger than 6 yr: Chewable tablets, based on weight: less than 10 kg, not recommended; 10 to less than 14 kg, 75 mg PO bid; 14 to less than 20 kg, 100 mg PO bid; 20 to less than 28 kg, 150 mg PO bid; 28 to less than 40 kg, 200 mg PO bid; 40 kg or more, 300 mg PO bid.
4 wk to younger than 2 yr: Suspension, based on weight: 3 to less than 4 kg, 1 mL (20 mg) PO bid; 4 to less than 6 kg, 1.5 mL (30 mg) PO bid; 6 to less than 8 kg, 2 mL (40 mg) PO bid; 8 to less than 11 kg, 3 mL (60 mg) PO bid; 11 to less than 14 kg, 4 mL (80 mg) PO bid; 14 to less than 20 kg, 5 mL (100 mg) bidStay updated, free articles.
