Therapeutic Actions
Slows normal and abnormal bone resorption without inhibiting bone formation and mineralization.
Indications
Treatment of hypercalcemia associated with malignancy
Treatment of moderate to severe Paget disease
Treatment of osteolytic lesions in breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and hormonal therapy
Treatment of osteolytic bone lesions of multiple myeloma
Unlabeled uses: Postmenopausal osteoporosis, hyperparathyroidism, prostatic carcinoma, immobilization-related hypercalcemia to prevent fractures and bone pain, osteoporosis with spinal cord injury

Powder for injection—30, 90 mg; injection—3, 6, 9 mg/mL
Dosages
Adults
Hypercalcemia: 60–90 mg IV given over 2–24 hr as a single dose. Do not exceed 90 mg in a single dose.
Paget disease: 30 mg/day IV as a 4-hr infusion on 3 consecutive days for a total dose of 90 mg. Do not exceed 90 mg in a single dose.
Osteolytic bone lesions: 90 mg IV as a 2-hr infusion every 3–4 wk. For bone lesions caused by multiple myeloma, give as 4-hr infusion once monthly; for bone lesions caused by breast cancer, give as 2-hr infusion every 3–4 wk.
