Therapeutic Actions
Inhibits prostaglandin synthetase to cause antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effects; the exact mechanism of action is not known.
Indications
Acute or long-term use in the management of signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis
Contraindications and Cautions
Contraindicated with known hypersensitivity to NSAIDs, or components of drug, significant renal impairment, lactation, treatment of perioperative pain following CABG surgery.
Use cautiously with impaired hearing, allergies, hepatic, CV, and GI conditions, pregnancy.
Available Forms
Caplets, tablets—600 mg; tablets—678 mg (Daypro ALTA equivalent to 600 mg oxaprozin)
Dosages
Adjust to the lowest effective dose to minimize side effects. Maximum daily dose, 1,800 mg or 26 mg/kg, whichever is lower. Maximum dose for Daypro ALTA is 1,200 mg/day.
Adults
