Therapeutic Actions
Antiprotozoal; mechanism of action against Giardia, Entamoeba species is not known.
Indications
Treatment of trichomoniasis caused by Trichomonas vaginalis
Treatment of giardiasis caused by Giardia duodenalis or G. lamblia in patients 3 yr and older
Treatment of amebiasis and amebic liver abscess caused by Entamoeba histolytica in patients 3 yr and older
Treatment of bacterial vaginosis in nonpregnant adult women
Contraindications and Cautions
Contraindicated with allergy to tinidazole, any component of the drug, or other nitroimidazoles; the first trimester of pregnancy; lactation.
Use cautiously with second or third trimester of pregnancy, history of blood dyscrasias, CNS disorders, hepatic impairment.

Tablets—250, 500 mg
Dosages
Adults
Trichomoniasis, giardiasis: Single dose of 2 g PO taken with food. Treat sexual partners simultaneously with the same dose.
Amebiasis: 2 g/day PO for 3 days, taken with food.
Amebic liver abscess: 2 g/day PO for 3–5 days, taken with food.
Bacterial vaginosis: 2 g/day PO for 2 days or 1 g/day PO for 5 days.
Pediatric patients older than 3 yr
Giardiasis: Single dose of 50 mg/kg PO (up to 2 g) taken with food.
Amebiasis: 50 mg/kg/day PO (up to 2 g/day) for 3 days, taken with food.
