Thoracic Instruments
A thoracotomy is an incision into the chest cavity.
Possible instruments needed for the procedure include an abdominal vascular set and cardiovascular instruments.
A brief description of the procedure follows:
1. A Matson rib stripper is used to remove muscle and periosteum from ribs.
2. A Giertz rib cutter is used to resect a rib.
3. A Semb rongeur is used to trim bone ends.
4. A Burford retractor is placed to retract the ribs.
5. A Semb retractor is used to expose the lung.
6. A Duval lung clamp is placed for gentle maneuvering of the lobes of the lungs.
7. A Sarot clamp is used for clamping the bronchus.
