Introduction


Stress is a temporary imbalance in a person’s emotional state and behaviour. It usually occurs when individuals are under more pressure than is manageable (Figure 51.1). Individuals generally describe themselves as stressed when they feel overloaded and wonder whether they can really cope with the pressures placed upon them.
