Spinal Fusion with Rodding


A spinal fusion with rod attachment is performed to correct curvature of the spine. The fusion may use bone from the iliac crest or bone from a bone bank. The soft tissue around the vertebra is removed and the bone graft is placed for the fusion.


Possible equipment needed for the procedure includes an open reduction set.


A brief description of rods and systems used for the procedure follows:



Diagnosis: Degenerative spondylolisthesis (partial forward dislocation of one vertebra over the one below it, most commonly the fifth lumbar vertebra over the first sacral vertebra). Spinal stenosis (lumbar) is an abnormal condition characterized by the constriction or narrowing of an opening or passageway in a body structure.
