Quality Monitoring
Definition: Systematic collection and analysis of an organization’s quality indicators for the purpose of improving patient care
Activities:
• Identify patient care problems or opportunities to improve care
• Participate in development of quality indicators
• Incorporate standards from appropriate professional groups
• Use preestablished criteria when collecting data
• Interview patients, families, and staff, as appropriate
• Review patient care record for documentation of care, as needed
• Conduct data analysis, as appropriate
• Compare results of data collected with preestablished norms
• Consult with nursing staff or other health professionals to develop action plans, as appropriate
• Recommend changes in practice, based on findings
• Report findings at staff meetings
• Review and revise standards, as appropriate
• Participate on quality improvement committees, as appropriate
• Provide orientation about quality improvement for new employees at the unit level
• Participate on intradisciplinary and interdisciplinary problem-solving teams
