LOW PLATELET COUNTS
Although chemotherapy can kill cancer cells, it can affect normal cells, too, destroying some of your cells called platelets that help your blood form clots. Forming clots is the way your body controls bleeding. When you have too few of these cells, it is called having a low platelet count. Sometimes, a low platelet count does not cause problems. However, you will need to follow these precautions if your platelet count becomes extremely low, to prevent too much bleeding if you should injure yourself.
PRECAUTIONS
• Be very careful to prevent accidents. Sometimes an accident could injure the inside of your body, where you cannot see bleeding. Also, a bruise is a warning that you are bleeding inside your body.
