Therapeutic Actions
Selectively inhibits CNS neuronal uptake of serotonin; blocks uptake of serotonin with weak effect on norepinephrine; little affinity for muscarinic, histaminergic, and alpha1-adrenergic receptors.
Indications
Treatment of OCD
Treatment of social anxiety disorder (CR capsules)
Unlabeled uses: Treatment of depression, bulimia nervosa, panic disorder, PTSD, migraine prevention
Contraindications and Cautions
Contraindicated with hypersensitivity to fluvoxamine, lactation.
Use cautiously with impaired hepatic or renal function, suicidal tendencies, seizures, mania, ECT therapy, CV disease, labor and delivery, pregnancy.

Tablets—25, 50, 100 mg; CR capsulesDNC—100, 150 mg
Dosages
Adults
Initially, 50 mg PO at bedtime. Increase in 50-mg increments at 4–7 day intervals. Usual range, 100–300 mg/day. Divide doses over 100 mg/day; give larger dose at bedtime. If symptoms do not improve within 10–12 wk, form of treatment should be reconsidered. CR capsules: 100–300 mg/day PO.
Pediatric patients 8–17 yr
Initially, 25 mg PO at bedtime. Increase dose by 25 mg/day every 4–7 days to achieve
desired effect. Divide doses over 50 mg/day and give larger dose at bedtime. Maximum dose for children up to age 11 yr is 200 mg/day.

Geriatric patients or patients with hepatic impairment
Give a reduced dose (25 mg PO at bedtime), adjust more slowly.
