Fibrin split products
Purpose
To detect fibrin split products (FSP) in the circulation
To help determine the presence and severity of a hyperfibrinolytic state (such as disseminated intravascular coagulation [DIC]) that may result in primary fibrinogenolysis or hypercoagulability
Patient preparation
Explain to the patient that the FSP test determines whether blood clots normally.
Tell the patient that the test requires a blood sample. Explain who will perform the venipuncture and when.
Explain to the patient that she may feel slight discomfort from the tourniquet and needle puncture.
