CHAPTER 94 An aneurysm is the abnormal bulging of an artery. A brief description of the procedure follows: 1. A Bard-Parker scalpel handle #7 with #11 blade is used to make small incisions over both femoral arteries in the groins. 2. Halsted mosquito hemostatic forceps are placed for hemostasis and blunt dissection. 3. A snare is introduced through the left femoral artery up through the descending aorta to above the aneurysm. 4. A pull wire is introduced through the right femoral artery and right iliac artery to the descending aorta. 5. The pull wire is snared and pulled into the left iliac artery to the femoral artery. 6. The endoluminal graft is introduced through the right femoral artery above the bifurcation. 7. The graft is inflated, which secures it to the walls of the descending aorta and the iliac arteries. 8. The small incisions are closed with staples with the aid of Adson tissue forceps with teeth.
