Emergencies: haemorrhage

Nursing care concerns:

Prepare patients, families and healthcare team for emergencies, as they may happen at home. Appropriate actions, phone numbers and first steps should be discussed. Worrying about the risk of bleeding and not knowing what to do can be frightening for all involved.
Appropriate medication and perhaps towelling should be made available particularly for travelling and if the patient is to be an out-patient or at home.
Mastering the art of staying with and staying calm in the event of an emergency.
Facilitate the opportunity to discuss what happened, question and make sense of the decisions that were taken during the event for all involved, including the patient, if they survive; family; professionals involved and ancillary staff who may be involved with family members or in the clear up afterwards.
