Therapeutic Actions

Inhibits the intracellular enzyme (5 alpha-reductase) that converts testosterone into a potent androgen (DHT); does not affect androgen receptors in the body; the prostate gland is dependent on DHT for its development and maintenance.


Indications



  • Treatment of symptomatic BPH in men with an enlarged prostate gland


  • In combination with tamsulosin for treatment of symptomatic BPH in men with enlarged prostate gland


  • Unlabeled use: Prostate cancer prevention.

CapsuleDNC—0.5 mg


Dosages

Adults

0.5 mg/day PO. Swallow whole.



  • Combination therapy with tamsulosin: 0.5 mg/day PO with tamsulosin 0.4. mg/day PO.

Pediatric patients

Contraindicated in pediatric patients.
