Therapeutic Actions
Reduces total peripheral resistance through alpha-blockade, causing an antihypertensive effect. The degree of smooth muscle tone in prostate/bladder neck is also mediated by alpha receptors. Its blockade reduces urethral resistance and relieves obstructions.
Indications
Treatment of mild-to-moderate hypertension, alone or as part of combination therapy
Treatment of BPH
Unlabeled use: Pediatric hypertension.
Contraindications and Cautions
Contraindicated with lactation.
Use cautiously with allergy to doxazosin, heart failure, renal failure, pregnancy, hepatic impairment.

Tablets—1, 2, 4, 8 mg; ER tabletsDNC—4, 8 mg
Dosages
Adults
Hypertension: Initially, 1 mg PO once daily. For maintenance, 2, 4, 8, or 16 mg PO once daily; dose may be increased every 2 wk. Maximum dose of 16 mg/day. Do not use ER tablets.
BPH: Initially, 1 mg PO daily; for maintenance, may increase to 2, 4, or 8 mg daily, adjusted at 1- to 2-wk intervals. For ER tablets, 4 mg PO once daily at breakfast; may be increased after 3–4 wk to maximum of 8 mg PO daily.Stay updated, free articles. Join our Telegram channel
