Therapeutic Actions
Gastric acid pump inhibitor that suppresses gastric acid secretion by specific inhibition of the hydrogen-potassium ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cells; blocks the final step in acid production.
Indications
Healing of all grades of erosive esophagitis
Maintenance of healing of erosive esophagitis
Treatment of heartburn associated with nonerosive GERD
Unlabeled use: Prevention of GI bleeding in patients receiving antiplatelet drugs
Contraindications and Cautions
Contraindicated with hypersensitivity to components of drug, lactation.
Use cautiously with pregnancy.
Possible increased risk for Clostridium difficile infection.
