Therapeutic Actions
Binds to estrogen receptors, has anti-estrogen effects; and inhibits growth of estrogen receptor–positive breast cancer cell lines.
Indications
Treatment of hormone receptor–positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women with disease progression following antiestrogen therapy
Contraindications and Cautions
Contraindicated with allergy to any component of the drug, pregnancy.
Use cautiously with bleeding disorders, thrombocytopenia, hepatic impairment, lactation.
Available Forms
Injection—50 mg/mL
Dosages
Adults
500 mg IM on days 1, 15, 29, and then monthly as two concomitant 5-mL injections, one in each buttock.
Patients with hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh Class B)
250 mg IM on days 1, 15, 29, and then monthly.
