Complex pain problems and treatment challenges Bone pain is a very common symptom secondary to cancer, particularly prostate, breast and lung. But it is also a feature of primary bone tumours. Bone pain from tumour infiltration is a result of blood-borne metastases. Bone pain is typically dull and persistent and occurs through both the day and night. It is worse on weight bearing and is usually tender on examination. Occasionally, there may be some local swelling.
