Therapeutic Actions
Inhibits glucan synthesis, an enzyme present in fungal cells but not human cells; this inhibition prevents the fungal cell wall from forming and results in cell death.
Indications
Treatment of candidemia and other forms of Candida infections (intra-abdominal abscess, peritonitis)
Treatment of esophageal candidiasis
Unlabeled use: Catheter-related bloodstream infections
Contraindications and Cautions
Contraindicated with hypersensitivity to anidulafungin or any other echinocandin, or to any component of the drug.
Use cautiously with hepatic impairment, pregnancy, lactation.
Available Forms
Single-use vials—50, 100 mg with diluent vial
Dosages
Adults
Treatment of candidemia and other forms of Candida infections: 200 mg by IV infusion on day 1, then 100 mg/day by IV infusion; generally continued for at least 14 days after the last positive culture.
Esophageal candidiasis: 100 mg by IV infusion on day 1, then 50 mg/day by IV infusion for a minimum of 14 days and for at least 7 days following resolution of symptoms.
