CHAPTER 26 Abdominal hysterectomy is the removal of the uterus through an abdominal incision. Additional structures that may be removed through the same incision and at the same time are the ovaries (oophorectomy) and fallopian tubes (salpingectomy). A brief description of the procedure follows: 1. Schroeder uterine tenaculum forceps or Skene uterine vulsellum forceps are used for grasping the uterus. 2. Heaney or Heaney-Ballantine hysterectomy forceps are used for clamping uterine ligaments. 3. A Jorgenson dissecting scissors is used for dissection.
