Therapeutic Actions

Bacteriostatic or bactericidal in susceptible bacteria; binds to sites on bacterial ribosomes, causing change in protein function, leading to cell death.


Indications



  • Only for treatment of mild to moderately severe community-acquired pneumonia caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae (including multi-drug resistant strains), Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Chlamydophilia pneumoniae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae in patients 18 yr and older


  • Unlabeled use: Sinusitis



Available Forms

TabletsDNC—300, 400 mg


Dosages

Adults

Give 800 mg once daily PO for 7–10 days.

Pediatric patients

Safety and efficacy not established.

Patients with renal impairment

In patients with CrCl less than 30 mL/min, including those on dialysis, give 600 mg PO once daily for 7–10 days after dialysis session is complete. In patients with CrCl less than 30 mL/min and coexisting hepatic impairment, give 400 mg PO once daily for 7–10 days.
