Therapeutic Actions
Blocks the smooth muscle alpha1-adrenergic receptors in the prostate, prostatic capsule, prostatic urethra, and bladder neck, leading to bladder and prostate relaxation and improved urine flow in cases of BPH.
Indications
Treatment of signs and symptoms of BPH
Contraindications and Cautions
Contraindicated with known hypersensitivity to any component of the drug, lactation, pregnancy, severe renal impairment, severe hepatic impairment, concurrent use of strong CP450 inhibitors.
Use cautiously in patients with hypotension, prostate cancer, cataract surgery, moderate renal impairment.

Capsules—4, 8 mg
Dosages
Adults
8 mg/day PO once daily with a meal.
Pediatric patients
Safety and efficacy not established.
Patients with renal impairment
With severe renal impairment (CrCl of 30 mL/min or less), drug is contraindicated; with moderate renal impairment (CrCl of 30–50 mL/min), 4 mg/day PO once daily with a meal.
Patients with hepatic impairment
With severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh score of 10 or more), drug is contraindicated. With mild to moderate hepatic impairment, no dosage adjustment is needed.
