Therapeutic Actions
Anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic activities related to inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis; exact mechanisms of action are not known.
Indications
Relief of the signs and symptoms of acute and chronic rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis
Unlabeled uses: Dysmenorrhea, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, postherpetic neuralgia
Contraindications and Cautions
Contraindicated with hypersensitivity to piroxicam or any other NSAID, for perioperative pain in CABG surgery, active GI bleeding, lactation.
Use cautiously in the elderly and with renal, hepatic, CV, GI conditions; pregnancy; HF.

Capsules—10, 20 mg
Dosages
Adults
Single daily dose of 20 mg PO. Dose may be divided. Steady-state blood levels are not achieved for 7–12 days. Therapeutic response occurs early but progresses over several wk; do not evaluate for 2 wk.
Pediatric patients
Safety and efficacy not established.
