Therapeutic Actions
Bactericidal: Inhibits cell wall synthesis of sensitive organisms, causing cell death.
Indications
Treatment of moderately severe infections caused by sensitive organisms—streptococci, pneumococci, staphylococci, meningococci, Actinomyces israelii, Clostridium perfringens and tetani, Leptotrichia buccalis (Vincent disease), Spirillum minus, Streptobacillus moniliformis, Listeria monocytogenes, Pasteurella multocida, Erysipelothrix insidiosa, Escherichia coli, Enterobacter aerogenes, Alcaligenes faecalis, Salmonella, Shigella, Proteus mirabilis, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Bacillus anthracis
Treatment of specific STDs
Contraindications and Cautions
Contraindicated with allergies to penicillins, cephalosporins, procaine, or other allergens.
Use cautiously with renal disorders, pregnancy, lactation (may cause diarrhea or candidiasis in the infant).

Injection—600,000 units/dose, 1,200,000 units/dose
Dosages
Adults
Moderately severe infections caused by sensitive strains of streptococci, pneumococci, staphylococci: Minimum of 600,000–1 million units/day IM for a minimum of 10 days.
Bacterial endocarditis (group A streptococci): 600,000–1 million units/day IM.
Fusospirochetal infections: 600,000–1 million units/day IM.
Rat-bite fever: 600,000–1 million units/day IM.
Erysipeloid: 600,000–1 million units/day IM.
