Therapeutic Actions
Bactericidal; interferes with DNA replication, repair, transcription, and recombination in susceptible gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, preventing cell reproduction and leading to cell death.
Indications
  • Treatment of adults with community-acquired pneumonia caused by susceptible strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae (including multidrug resistant strains), Haemophilus influenzae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia pneumoniae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae
  • Treatment of bacterial sinusitis caused by S. pneumoniae, H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis
  • Treatment of acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis caused by S. pneumoniae, H. influenzae, H. parainfluenzae, K. pneumoniae, S. aureus, M. catarrhalis
  • Treatment of uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections caused by S. aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes
  • Treatment of complicated skin and skin structure infections and complicated intra-abdominal infections caused by methicillin–susceptible S. aureus, E. coli, K. pneumoniae, Enterobacter cloacae
  • Treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis caused by susceptible strains of bacteria (ophthalmic solution)
  • Unlabeled use: Hospital-acquired pneumonia, infective endocarditis in adults
