Therapeutic Actions

A CNS stimulant that helps to improve vigilance and decrease excessive daytime sleepiness associated with narcolepsy and other sleep disorders; may act through dopaminergic mechanisms; exact mechanism of action is not known. Not associated with the cardiac and other systemic stimulatory effects of amphetamines.


Indications



  • Treatment of narcolepsy with excessive daytime sleepiness


  • Improvement in wakefulness in patients with shift-work sleep disorder (SWSD)


  • Improvement in wakefulness in patients with obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS)



  • Unlabeled uses: Treatment of fatigue associated with MS, Parkinson disease, brain injury, ADHD
