Therapeutic Actions
Anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity; inhibits prostaglandin and leukotriene synthesis and has antibradykinin and lysosomal membrane-stabilizing actions.
Indications
Acute and long-term treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis
Relief of mild to moderate pain
Treatment of dysmenorrhea
Reduction of fever (OTC indication)
Unlabeled uses: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis, migraine prophylaxis
Contraindications and Cautions
Contraindicated with significant renal impairment, pregnancy, lactation; allergy to ketoprofen, aspirin; immediate coronary artery bypass procedure.
Use cautiously with impaired hearing; allergies; hepatic, CV, and GI conditions.
Available Forms
Capsules—50, 75 mg; ER capsules—100, 150, 200 mg
Dosages
Adults
Do not exceed 300 mg/day, or 200 mg/day ER.
Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis: Starting dose, 75 mg tid or 50 mg qid PO. Maintenance dose, 150–300 mg PO in three or four divided doses. ER, 200 mg PO daily.
Mild to moderate pain, primary dysmenorrhea: 25–50 mg PO every 6–8 hr as needed.
Pediatric patients
Safety and efficacy not established.
Geriatric patients or patients with hepatic or renal impairment
