Therapeutic Actions

Anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity; inhibits prostaglandin and leukotriene synthesis and has antibradykinin and lysosomal membrane-stabilizing actions.


Indications



  • Acute and long-term treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis


  • Relief of mild to moderate pain


  • Treatment of dysmenorrhea


  • Reduction of fever (OTC indication)


  • Unlabeled uses: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis, migraine prophylaxis



Available Forms

Capsules—50, 75 mg; ER capsules—100, 150, 200 mg



Dosages

Adults

Do not exceed 300 mg/day, or 200 mg/day ER.



  • Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis: Starting dose, 75 mg tid or 50 mg qid PO. Maintenance dose, 150–300 mg PO in three or four divided doses. ER, 200 mg PO daily.


  • Mild to moderate pain, primary dysmenorrhea: 25–50 mg PO every 6–8 hr as needed.

Pediatric patients

Safety and efficacy not established.

Geriatric patients or patients with hepatic or renal impairment
