Trunk incurvature | When a finger is run laterally down the neonates spine, the trunk flexes and the pelvis swings toward the stimulated side. | 2 months |
Tonic neck (fencing position) | When the neonates head is turned while hes lying supine, the extremities on the same side extend outward while those on the opposite side flex. | 2 to 3 months |
Grasping | When a finger is placed in each of the neonates hands, his fingers grasp tightly enough to be pulled to a sitting position. | 3 to 4 months |
Rooting | When the cheek is stroked, the neonate turns his head in the direction of the stroke. | 3 to 4 months |
Moro (startle reflex) | When lifted above the crib and suddenly lowered (or in response to a loud noise), the arms and legs symmetrically extend and then abduct while the fingers spread to form a C. | 4 to 6 months |
Sucking | Sucking motion begins when a nipple is placed in the neonates mouth. | 6 months |
