Therapeutic Actions

Accelerates the breakdown of glycogen to glucose (glycogenolysis) in the liver, causing an increase in blood glucose level; relaxes smooth muscle of the GI tract and increases the force of contraction of the heart.


Indications



  • Hypoglycemia: Counteracts severe hypoglycemic reactions in diabetic patients treated with insulin


  • Diagnostic aid in the radiologic examination of the stomach, duodenum, small bowel, or colon when a hypotonic state is advantageous


  • Unlabeled uses: Treatment of beta blocker and calcium channel blocker overdose and in anaphylactic reactions
