Therapeutic Actions
Accelerates the breakdown of glycogen to glucose (glycogenolysis) in the liver, causing an increase in blood glucose level; relaxes smooth muscle of the GI tract and increases the force of contraction of the heart.
Indications
Hypoglycemia: Counteracts severe hypoglycemic reactions in diabetic patients treated with insulin
Diagnostic aid in the radiologic examination of the stomach, duodenum, small bowel, or colon when a hypotonic state is advantageous
Unlabeled uses: Treatment of beta blocker and calcium channel blocker overdose and in anaphylactic reactions
Contraindications and Cautions
Contraindicated with hypersensitivity, pheochromocytoma, insulinoma.
Use cautiously with pregnancy, lactation, insulinoma.

Powder for injection—1 mg
Dosages
Adults and pediatric patients weighing more than 20 kg
Hypoglycemia: 0.5–1 mg IV, IM, or subcutaneously; severe hypoglycemia: 1 mL IV, IM, or subcutaneously. Response is usually seen in 5–20 min. If response is delayed, dose may be repeated one to two times. Use IV if possible.Stay updated, free articles. Join our Telegram channel
