Therapeutic Actions

Affects cell membranes of susceptible fungi to cause fungus death; exact mechanism of action is not understood.


Indications



  • Treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible strains of Candida, Cryptococcus



Available Forms

Capsules—250, 500 mg


Dosages

Adults

50–150 mg/kg/day PO at 6-hr intervals.

Pediatric patients

Safety and efficacy not established.

Patients with renal impairment

Adjust dosing interval based on CrCl: maintain blood levels below 100 mcg/mL.
