Therapeutic Actions
Affects cell membranes of susceptible fungi to cause fungus death; exact mechanism of action is not understood.
Indications
Treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible strains of Candida, Cryptococcus
Contraindications and Cautions
Contraindicated with allergy to flucytosine, pregnancy, lactation.
Use cautiously with renal impairment (drug accumulation and toxicity may occur), hepatic impairment, bone marrow depression.

Capsules—250, 500 mg
Dosages
Adults
50–150 mg/kg/day PO at 6-hr intervals.
Pediatric patients
Safety and efficacy not established.
Patients with renal impairment
Adjust dosing interval based on CrCl: maintain blood levels below 100 mcg/mL.
