Sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor modulator


Therapeutic Actions

By blocking sphingosine 1-phosphate receptors, drug blocks the capacity of lymphocytes to egress from lymph nodes, reducing the number of lymphocytes in peripheral blood. Mechanism of action in MS is not known; thought to be related to the reduction of lymphocyte migration into the CNS.


Indications



  • Treatment of relapsing forms of MS to reduce the frequency of clinical exacerbations and to delay the accumulation of physical disability



Available Forms

Capsules—0.5 mg


Dosages

Adults

0.5 mg/day PO; monitor patient for bradycardia for at least 6 hr after first dose.

Pediatric patients younger than 18 yr

Safety and efficacy not established.
