Therapeutic Actions

Mechanism of action is not clear. Has properties of all antiarrhythmic classes; affects action potential of cardiac cells to alter conduction.


Indications



  • To reduce risk of cardiovascular hospitalization in patients with paroxysmal or persistent atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter with a recent episode of either and associated cardiovascular risk factors (age older than 70 yr, hypertension, diabetes, prior stroke, left atrial diameter 50 mm or more, left ventricular ejection factor less than 40%) who are in sinus rhythm or will be cardioverted

Tablets—400 mg


Dosages

Adults

400 mg PO bid with morning and evening meal.

Pediatric patients

Safety and efficacy not established.
