Therapeutic Actions

Exact mechanism of action not known: Inhibition of prostaglandin synthetase, the enzyme that breaks down prostaglandins, may account for its antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effects.


Indications



  • Acute or long-term treatment of mild to moderate pain


  • Rheumatoid arthritis


  • Osteoarthritis

TabletsDNC—500 mg


Dosages

Adults



  • Mild to moderate pain: 1,000 mg PO initially, followed by 500 mg every 8–12 hr PO.


  • Osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis: 500–1,000 mg/day PO in two divided doses; maintenance dosage should not exceed 1,500 mg/day.

Pediatric patients 12 yr and younger

Safety and efficacy not established.
