Therapeutic Actions

An analogue of LHRH; causes a decrease in FSH and LH levels, leading to a suppression of ovarian and testicular hormone production, which causes decreased levels of estrogens (in women) and testosterone (in men); after continuous use, a sustained decrease in FSH and LH levels occurs.


Indications



  • Palliative treatment of advanced prostate cancer


  • Unlabeled uses: Central precocious puberty, ovarian cancer, pancreatic carcinoma, endometriosis, hyperandrogenism, in vitro fertilization, uterine leiomyomata



Available Forms

Injectable suspension—3.75 mg, 11.25 mg, 22.5 mg


Dosages

Adults



  • Palliative treatment: 3.75 mg depot injection IM once monthly into buttock, or 11.25 mg injection IM every 12 wk into buttock, or 22.5 mg IM every 24 wk into buttock.
