Therapeutic Actions

Inhibits cell wall synthesis in susceptible strains of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, causing cell death.


Indications



  • Treatment of active pulmonary and extrapulmonary (including renal) TB that is not responsive to first-line antituberculotics in conjunction with other antituberculotics


  • UTIs caused by susceptible bacteria

Capsules—250 mg


Dosages

Adults

Initial dose, 250 mg bid PO at 12-hr intervals for first 2 wk; monitor serum levels (above 30 mcg/mL is generally toxic). Maintenance dose, 500 mg–1 g/day PO in divided doses monitored by blood levels. Do not exceed 1 g/day.
