Therapeutic Actions
Intranasal spray that allows absorption of vitamin B12, which is essential to cell growth and reproduction, hematopoiesis, and nucleoprotein and myelin synthesis, and has been associated with fat and carbohydrate metabolism and protein synthesis.
Indications
Maintenance of patients in hematologic remission after IM vitamin B12 therapy for pernicious anemia, inadequate secretion of intrinsic factor, dietary deficiency, malabsorption, competition by intestinal bacteria or parasites, or inadequate utilization of vitamin B12
Maintenance of effective therapeutic levels of vitamin B12 in patients with HIV, AIDS, MS, and Crohn disease
Contraindications and Cautions
Contraindicated with hypersensitivity to cobalt, vitamin B12, or any component of drug.
Use cautiously with pregnancy or lactation, Leber disease, nasal lesions, or URIs.
