Therapeutic Actions
Stimulates chloride ion channels and calcium channels in intestinal epithelial cells, blocking the chloride secretion and high-volume water loss in diarrhea and normalizing the flow of chloride and water in the GI tract.
Indications
Symptomatic relief of noninfectious diarrhea in adults with HIV/AIDS on retroviral therapy
Contraindications and Cautions
Contraindicated with history of serious hypersensitivity reactions to components of drug; infectious diarrhea; pregnancy; breast-feeding.
