Certainly communication isn’t the only factor in collaboration. Without effective communication, however, there can be no effective collaboration. Determine your current communication skill level and identify areas of strengths and weaknesses. Leverage your strengths and improve your areas of weaknesses. For instance, if you find it hard to speak up in difficult situations, practice with increasing levels of hard situations so you can gradually increase your expertise. Try some of the suggested tools, tips, and techniques in these pages to improve communication in your workplace.

By improving their communication skills, nurses can ensure that they collaborate with each other, with other disciplines, and with patients and families to improve patient outcomes.
