Therapeutic Actions

Fungicidal and fungistatic: Binds to fungal cell membrane with a resultant change in membrane permeability, allowing leakage of intracellular components, causing cell death.


Indications



  • Troche: Treatment of oropharyngeal candidiasis; prevention of oropharyngeal candidiasis in immunocompromised patients receiving radiation, chemotherapy, or steroid therapy


  • Vaginal preparations: Local treatment of vulvovaginal candidiasis (moniliasis)


  • Topical preparations: Topical treatment of tinea pedia, tinea cruris, tinea corporis due to Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum, Microsporum canis; candidiasis
    due to Candida albicans; tinea versicolor due to Malassezia furfur



Available Forms

Vaginal suppositories—100, 200 mg; vaginal cream, solution, lotion—1%, 2%; topical cream, solution, lotion—1%; oral troche—10 mg
