Therapeutic Actions
Binds to estrogen receptors, decreasing the number of available estrogen receptors, which gives the hypothalamus and pituitary the false signal to increase FSH and LH secretion, resulting in ovarian stimulation.
Indications
Treatment of ovulatory failure in patients with normal liver function and normal endogenous estrogen levels, whose partners are fertile and potent
Unlabeled use: Treatment of male infertility
Contraindications and Cautions
Contraindicated with known sensitivity to clomiphene, liver disease, uterine fibroids, abnormal vaginal bleeding of undetermined origin, ovarian cyst, uncontrolled thyroid or adrenal dysfunction, organic intracranial lesions, pregnancy.
Use cautiously with lactation.

Adults
Treatment of ovulatory failure:
Initial therapy: 50 mg/day PO for 5 days started anytime there has been no recent uterine bleeding or about the fifth day of the cycle if uterine bleeding does occur.
Second course: If ovulation does not occur after the first course, administer 100 mg/day PO for 5 days; start this course as early as 30 days after the previous one.
