Therapeutic Actions

Blocks the effects of histamine at H1-receptor sites; has atropine-like, antipruritic, and sedative effects.


Indications



  • Symptomatic relief of symptoms associated with perennial and seasonal allergic rhinitis; vasomotor rhinitis; allergic conjunctivitis


  • Mild, uncomplicated urticaria and angioedema



Available Forms

Tablets—1.34, 2.68 mg; syrup—0.67 mg/5 mL


Dosages

Adults and children older than 12 yr



  • Allergic rhinitis: 1.34 mg PO bid. Do not exceed 8.04 mg/day (syrup); 2.68 mg/day (tablets).


  • Urticaria or angioedema: 2.68 mg PO daily–bid. Do not exceed 8.04 mg/day.

Pediatric patients 6–12 yr



  • Allergic rhinitis (syrup only): 0.67 mg PO as syrup bid. Do not exceed 4.02 mg/day.


  • Urticaria or angioedema (syrup only): 1.34 mg PO as syrup bid. Do not exceed 4.02 mg/day.

Pediatric patients younger than 6 yr
