Therapeutic Actions
Bactericidal: Inhibits synthesis of bacterial cell wall, causing cell death.
Indications
-
Acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis due to Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Streptococcus pneumoniae

Acute bacterial otitis media due to H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis, Streptococcus pyogenes
-
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis due to S. pyogenes
Contraindications and Cautions

Contraindicated with allergy to cephalosporins or penicillins.

Use cautiously with renal failure; lactation, pregnancy.
Available Forms
Capsules—400 mg: oral suspension—90 mg/5 mL, 180 mg/5 mL
Dosages
Adults
400 mg PO daily for 10 days.
Pediatric patients
9 mg/kg/day PO for 10 days to a maximum daily dose of 400 mg/day.
Patients with renal impairment
