Arthrography
Purpose
To outline joint contour and soft-tissue structures
To evaluate persistent unexplained joint discomfort or pain
To identify acute or chronic abnormalities of the joint capsule or supporting ligaments of the knee, shoulder, ankle, hip, or wrist
To detect internal joint derangements
To locate synovial cysts
To evaluate damage from recurrent dislocations
Patient preparation
Make sure that the consent form is signed by the child’s parents or legal guardians.
Note and report all allergies.
Explain the purpose of the study, how it’s done, who will perform the study, and where it will take place.
Inform the child and his parents that he need not restrict food and fluids.
Warn the child that a tingling sensation, burning, or pressure in the joint may occur with the contrast injection.
Explain to the child that some swelling, discomfort, or crepitant noises may occur in the joint after the study and that these usually disappear after 1 or 2 days. Tell the child and his parents to contact the physician if symptoms persist.Stay updated, free articles. Join our Telegram channel
