Instruct client on proper nutrition and exercise.

Notify health care provider of continuous gastrointestinal (GI) upset or distress, bleeding, yellow skin discoloration, decreased libido, or dysuria.

Powder or granule preparations should be mixed with liquids or food.

Do not change or stop medication without consulting with health care provider.

Consult with health care provider before taking herbal remedies or OTC drugs.

Other drugs should be taken 1 hour before or 4 to 6 hours after bile acid sequestrants.

Periodic laboratory and clinical monitoring are indicated.

Notify health care provider immediately if experiencing muscle pain.

Combine with bile acids in the small intestine to form insoluble complexes excreted through stool, which reduces low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and serum cholesterol levels
