Therapeutic Actions
Long-acting anticholinergic that blocks acetylcholine at muscarinic receptors, leading to bronchodilation; effect of inhaled drug is predominantly site specific, with less generalized parasympatholytic activity than systemic agents.
Indications
Long-term maintenance treatment of bronchospasm associated with COPD, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema
Contraindications and Cautions
Contraindicated with history of serious hypersensitivity reactions to components of the drug; acute bronchospasm.
Use cautiously with bladder outlet obstruction, BPH, glaucoma, pregnancy, lactation, known milk protein hypersensitivity.
